These heat-retaining bags usually con- tain a thin layer of aluminium foil which reflects microwaves. This reflected en- ergy can, in turn, cause the outer paper covering to become so hot that it ignites.

When heating up food of differing com- position, or which cannot be stirred or turned during cooking, as with a plated meal, it is preferable to heat these on a lower power setting.
