EPAC300-M50 SERIES USER’S MANUAL SECTION 2 EPAC300-M50 SERIES CONTROLLER OVERVIEW The EPAC300-M50 Series Controller Unit (Figure 1) is an advanced rugged traffic signal controller unit configurable for traffic management and communications applications. It meets the latest NEMA specification, which is TS2-2003.

Front Panel Display. 3.2 Microprocessor The EPAC300-M50 Series is powered by a 32-bit microprocessor installed on a separate printed circuit board. This allows upgrade to more powerful processors in the future by simple replacement of a single plug-in circuit board.
Because C50 and NEMA Port 2 appear on separate pins of this connector, they may be used simultaneously via a “Y” adaptor cable, available from Siemens, as follows: Figure 3: “Y” Cable Block Diagram...
EPAC300-M50 SERIES USER’S MANUAL 3.4.3 NEMA Port 3 Internal Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) Modem 3.4.3.1 Phone Line Connection Signals are provided on this connector compliant with the NEMA TS-2 Port 3 standard, used for communications via twisted pair to other modem devices, such as an On-Street Master, typically communicating via ECOM or NTCIP protocol.
CTS goes away, and EPAC “listens” for the next data packet. 3.4.5 Infrared Port The EPAC300-M50 Series includes a wireless infrared port compatible with the Microsoft Windows for Pocket PC RAW IR protocol. This protocol is included in most Windows laptop personal computers and personal digital assistants (PDA).
This drive is used in the EPAC-M50 series exactly like a computer hard drive, meaning it contains a file structure to store software program and user data files.
EPAC300-M50 SERIES USER’S MANUAL The EPAC300-M50 series includes DRAM used to execute the traffic application software. DRAM does not retain memory during power failures, and is therefore reloaded from the FLASH drive after power failures. 3.6.3 Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) The EPAC300-M50 series includes SRAM used as a “scratchpad”...
EPAC300-M50 SERIES USER’S MANUAL 3.7 Removable Front Panel 3.7.1 Description The EPAC300-M50 includes an optional removable Front Panel for data entry and display, which may be deleted for cost savings. The Front Panel Display contains 8 lines of 40 characters, while the key board contains 28 poly-dome sealed keys.
The Front Panel special function keys map to computer keys as follows: NEXT A C60 cable is available from Siemens for connection to COM1 of a PC. 3.8 Power Supply The EPAC300-M50 series includes a modular power supply that converts service power into +5 VDC for all of the electronics and +24 VDC to power devices in the cabinet.
EPAC300-M50 SERIES USER’S MANUAL The Power Supply provides enough storage capacity to prevent controller reboot during power failures of 500 mS or less. The Power Supply also includes super capacitors, which power the time of day clock and SRAM for a minimum of 30 days without batteries.
EPAC300-M50 SERIES USER’S MANUAL 3.9.1.1 Data Key Option The optional Data Key is used by the EPAC M50 series software to hold the intersection data. Once the intersection data is entered via the front panel key pad, or via a download, the intersection data can then be transferred to the Data Key.

8.2.1 Model Number The Model Number is the catalog number assigned by Siemens to the product. The Model Number should be used to order the product, as well as in any phone calls or other correspondence with Siemens. The Model Number will quickly identify the product and facilitate prompt service.
EPAC M50-Series programming off site, if possible. Be sure to provide adequate safety at the intersection during installation. 9.2 Handling Normal precautions for lifting and transporting electronic equipment should be observed when handling the system units. Use the Siemens original packing material whenever possible. 9.3 Environmental 9.3.1 Humidity The EPAC M50-Series will operate normally at a relative humidity of up to 95%, non-condensing.
2. Keep parts and modules in their original containers until you are ready to use them. Siemens purchases all electronic parts in anti-static containers, uses anti- static workstations, and ships all finished products in anti-static bags, or metal AUGUST 2005...
EPAC300-M50 SERIES USER’S MANUAL enclosures. Anti-static bags are sturdy, reusable, and should be stowed for later use, instead of being discarded. 3. Wear a wrist grounding device and make sure it is in contact with the skin. Anti- static wrist straps are also sold by electronic distributors, and consist of a Velcro cuff wrapped around the wrist, with the other end snapped to the anti- static mat.

Pick a cable type from the catalog that has enough wires such that EIA Ground can be carried on a separate wire inside the shield. Many installers use the shield as the EIA Ground, but Siemens discourages this practice.
Equipment Ground, if desired. The EPAC M50-Series has no such internal connections from Equipment Ground to DC Ground. Thus, by following steps a) through d) above, the two are not connected. Siemens recommends connecting the DC Ground of the cabinet power supply (connector "A"...

NO UNAUTHORIZED REPAIRS WILL BE PAID by SIEMENS ITS. 6. QUESTION -- What if it is found that the cause of a failure for which SIEMENS ITS has made a Field Service trip was due to equipment not supplied by SIEMENS ITS? ANSWER -- Those service calls will be billed to you.
Page 47
ANSWER -- Advances in the state of the art from time to time result in worthwhile improvements in performance and reliability. When such is possible, you will be contacted by SIEMENS ITS Technical Service Department and given the option to approve such a modification. Charges for the modification and the effect on the balance of your equipment will be discussed in full.
