HP Kayak XU
This guide is for experienced technicians who have already
completed the training course on the HP Vectra computer
family. In particular, it assumes that the reader is already
familiar with the HP Vectra XU 6/xxx PC, upon which the
HP Kayak XU PC Workstations are based.
This document serves as a self-paced training guide,
designed to train you for repair of the computer, and only
contains repair-specific information. For information on the
installation of accessories, see the User's Guide and the
online documents that are supplied with the computer.

    Replacing the System Board Replacing the System Board Follow instructions in the User’s Guide to remove the cover and external cable connections of the PC Workstation. To remove the system board, follow these steps: 8 Remove the AGP, PCI and ISA accessories from their slots. (All internal slots and connectors are on the system board).

Some models are supplied with dual processors already installed, while in single-processor models an optional second processor may be installed in the empty socket.

    Removing the Power Supply To remove a faulty power supply, and replace it by a new one, follow these steps: 1 Disconnect the power cable and remove the cover from the PC Workstation. 2 Disconnect the fan connection on the upper left of the system board. Remove the rear fan and airflow guide assembly.

    Network Features All models of HP Kayak PC Workstations are equipped with an HP 10BT/100TX NightDIRECTOR/100 Ethernet board. This LAN interface adaptor has a single RJ-45 connector for both 10BT or 100TX connections. It supports the external start (Remote Power-On) feature. A new feature is the addition of a light situated on the adaptor, near the connector.

    Reinstalling the Operating System Reinstalling the Operating System All models of the HP Kayak XU PC Workstation are preloaded with Windows NT 4.0 operating system with Service Pack 3. If the operating system needs to be reinstalled on the PC Workstation, both Windows NT 4.0 and Service Pack 3 must be reinstalled.
