    Determining the DXi6900 Model Before starting an installation, you will need to determine if the DXi system is a DXi6900 G1 orDXi6900 G2. DXi6900 model information is located on the pull-out information tag on the front of the Node (see Figure 1 below).

Lift the expansion card latch out of the slot (see Figure 21 below). The expansion card latch is located to the right of PCIe slots as you face the rear of the Node. The latch will remain attached to the system.

Holding the network card by its edges, position the card so that the connector on the card aligns with the expansion card connector on the riser. 4. Insert the card-edge connector firmly into the expansion card connector until the card is fully seated.

    To make it easier to correctly cable the system, and for safety reasons, follow these recommendations when installing the DXi6900 system in the rack: A rack is not included with the DXi6900. A standard 40U rack can be ordered from Quantum as an optional purchase.

  • Page 34 Locating the Mounting Position The DXi6900 system is designed to fit in a standard 19 inch (48.3 cm) wide rack. It is important for the chassis installation to locate the hole pattern in the rack rails. You must allow 2U (3.4 inches or 8.7 cm) of vertical space for the DXi6900 Node and an addition 2U for each Array module (RBOD) and Expansion module (EBOD) installed in the rack.

  • Page 36 Installing the DXi6900 System in the Rack Caution: Before proceeding, ensure that all hard drive latches are completely closed. Quantum recommends that you do not remove the hard drives from the chassis. If they have been removed for any reason during or after the installation, you must install the hard drives in the same position in which they were removed.

  • Page 40 Cabling the DXi6900 Follow these steps to cable the DXi6900: 1. Connect each Array module (RBOD) to the DXi6900 Node. For DXi6900 G1 configurations, use the provided 2m mini-SAS HD to mini-SAS cables (see Figure 29 on the next page).

  • Page 46 Installing the DXi6900 System in the Rack Note: Quantum recommends connecting the Node and each Array and Expansion module power cord (two per unit) to a separate AC circuit to ensure system availability in case of a power failure. Power supplies should be checked periodically for audible and LED warnings.

    To PTT or VTL (optional) Initializing the Storage Arrays and Software The DXi6900 is not operational until you add the storage arrays to the system and initialize them, and initialize the software, using the Pick to Order (PTO) configuration tools on the Service Menu.

The DXi6900 bonding settings must match the switch settings. If the switch settings and the DXi6900 settings do not match, your system may become inaccessible through the switch.

Quantum recommends using the DXi6900 10 meter LC to LC optical cable type that are shipped with the DXi6900 system. Consult your 10GbE Optical switch/SFP documentation for additional information on optical cable requirements.
