- Page 3 INTRODUCTION Multiplying Data Rates HSCSD, High Speed Circuit Switched Data – or just High Speed Data, is the next step in GSM data development. First, the current 9.6 kbps data bit rate is upgraded to 14.4 kbps. Second, HSCSD allows multiple time slots to be used for the data connection. Thus, multiples of 14.4 kbps and 9.6 kbps can be offered, reaching data rates of 28.8 or up to 43.2 kbps.
