Getting started Inserting the SIM card/ battery The service provider supplies you with a SIM card on which all the im- portant data for your line is stored. If the SIM card has been delivered in credit-card size, snap the smaller segment out and remove any rough edges.

Charge icon not visible If the battery has been discharged fully, the charge icon is not immedi- ately visible when the power supply is plugged in. It will appear after up to two hours. Switching on/off/entering PIN Switching phone on and off Press and hold the On/Off/ End key. Enter PIN The SIM card can be protected with a 4 to 8-digit PIN. Enter the PIN using the number keys. The charac- ters **** sure nobody can read your PIN on the display.
General instructions Standby mode The phone is in standby mode and is ready for use when the name of the service provider appears on the display. By pressing and holding, you can return to standby mode from any situation. Signal strength Strong receive signal.

Following the third unsuccessful at- tempt, access to the phone code and the functions that use it is denied. If this occurs, contact the Siemens Service (page 59). Clearing SIM card barring If the PIN is entered incorrectly three times, the SIM card is barred.
Text entry Text entry without T9 Press number key repeatedly until the required letter appears. Example: Press once briefly to type the letter a, twice to type b etc. Press and hold to write the number. Press briefly to delete the letter before the cursor, press and hold to erase the whole word.

Write with T9 it is best if you finish a word without looking at the display. You simply press the keys where the relevant letter is located once only. A blank space or moving to the right ends the word. Do not use special characters such as Ä.
Calling Enter the number (always with prefix/international dialling code). A short press clears the last digit, a long press clears the entire phone number. Dial phone number. End call Press the End key briefly. Set volume Press upwards/down- wards in order to regulate the volume.

You can send and receive very long messages (up to 760 characters) on your phone. These long text mes- sages are automatically composed of "normal" SMS messages (note higher charges). The maximum possible length of an SMS is reduced if you use special letters from some lan- guages.

At the press of a button, various functions are re- arranged thematically, e.g. start up/ shutdown animation, Wallpaper, Screensaver, start-up/shutdown melody, additional animations. Screensaver The screensaver shows a picture in the display when a period of time set by you has elapsed. An incoming call and pressing any key will end the function except if the safety function is activated. Note Digital clock screensaver reduces the phone standby time.
