When your presentation graphics, photographs, or other projects have special printing requirements, you can use the custom settings in your EPSON Stylus COLOR 440 software. You can choose predefined settings or adjust individual options like brightness, contrast, sharpness, and halftoning.
Using Predefined Advanced Settings Predefined settings provide an easy way to fine-tune your printer’s operation for special image types, such as graphics downloaded from the Internet or images produced by a digital camera. If you’re printing a multi-page document and want the last page printed first so the pages come out without needing to be reordered, click the Reverse Order checkbox. Saving Custom Settings After you’ve fine-tuned your printer settings for a special project, you can save the settings as a group. Then you can quickly reuse them the next time you print a similar project. You can save advanced settings changes, but you can also save more basic settings, such as changes you make on the Paper or Layout tabs.
Type a unique name for your settings (up to 16 characters) and click the Save button. Click OK to close the Advanced dialog box (not necessary with Windows 3.1). The name you choose will now be available in the Custom Settings list on the Main dialog box.
Click Save Settings. (In Windows 3.1, click OK, then click Save Settings on the Main dialog box.) Select the name of the custom settings group you’re redefining in the Custom Settings dialog box. Click Save. You see a message asking if you want to overwrite the previous settings.

Follow the instructions on the screen to clean the print head. Cleaning takes about two minutes, during which the printer makes some noise and the power light flashes.
