IBM Statement of Limited Warranty. Customer safety is important to IBM. Our products are developed to be safe and effective. However, personal computers are electronic devices. Power cords, power adapters, and other features can create potential safety risks that can result in physical injury or property damage, especially if misused.
The product does not operate normally when you follow the operating instructions. Note: If you notice these conditions with a non-IBM product (such as an extension cord), stop using that product until you can contact the product manufacturer for further instructions, or until you get a suitable replacement.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact the IBM Support Center. Power cords and power adapters Use only the power cords and power adapters supplied by the product manufacturer. The power cord and power adapter are intended for use with this product only.
This design is an important safety feature. IBM has received a number of reports from customers that the Lithium-Ion batteries in their portable computers have overheated and “vented”. Some customers reported hearing a hissing, cracking or popping sound immediately before these incidents.
Follow instructions included with your product when charging and operating the battery. v Do not open or service your battery. Contact the IBM Support Center for assistance. v Do not crush, puncture, or incinerate the battery pack or short circuit the battery contacts.

DANGER If the backup battery is incorrectly replaced, there is danger of explosion. The lithium battery contains lithium and can explode if it is not properly handled or disposed of. Replace only with a battery of the same type. To avoid possible injury or death, do not: (1) throw or immerse the battery into water, (2) allow it to heat to more than 100 °C (212 °F), or (3) attempt to repair or disassemble it.
Laser compliance statement An optical storage drive (device), such as a CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM drive and SuperDisk, which can be installed in the IBM ThinkPad computer is a laser product. The drive’s classification label (shown below) is on the surface of the drive.

DANGER Do not open the optical storage drive unit; no user adjustments or serviceable parts are inside. Use of controls, adjustments, or the performance of procedures other than those specified might result in hazardous radiation exposure. Class 1 laser products are not considered hazardous. The design of the laser system and the optical storage drive ensures that there is no exposure to laser radiation above a Class 1 level during normal operation, user maintenance, or servicing.

If you see a scratchlike mark on your display, it might be a stain transferred from the keyboard or the TrackPoint pointing stick when the cover was pressed from the outside.

Solving computer problems Problem: When you take action to return from standby mode, the computer display remains blank. Solution: Check whether an external monitor was disconnected while the computer was in standby mode. Do not disconnect the external monitor while the computer is in standby mode or hibernation mode.

Solution: The computer cannot enter hibernation mode: v If you are using one of the IBM communication PC Cards. To enter hibernation mode, stop the communication program, and then remove the PC Card or disable the PC Card slot. Click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the taskbar (for Windows XP) or the Unplug or Eject Hardware icon in the taskbar (for Windows 2000).
