Radiation Dose
The absorbed radiation dose (skin dose), D (Gy), can be estimated from the values
of Y in Diagram 1.
The absorbed radiation dose (skin dose) is dependent on:
❏ the x-ray tube voltage, U (kV)
❏ the quantity of charge, Q (mAs))
❏ the source to skin distance, r (m)
❏ the permanent (inherent) filtration of the single tank (mm Al)
Estimate the radiation dose
The radiation dose D is calculated with Equation (2):
Equation (2): D = Y x Q / r
2 /mAs) - conversion factor
❏ Y (µGy x m
❏ Q (mAs) - quantity of charge during exposure
❏ r (m) - source to skin distance. Use the built-in measuring tape to determine r
◆ Read the value of Y (µGy x m
tube voltage (kV) used during exposure.
◆ Calculate the radiation dose D with Equation (2).
