    1. Shut down the computer and disconnect the AC adapter from the computer. 2. Press and hold the <B> key on the keyboard, and then press the power button for 3 seconds until the Dell logo appears on the screen.
  • Page 9 3. Press any key to continue. NOTE: The Service Mode procedure automatically skips this step if the Owner Tag of the system is not set up in advance by the manufacturer. 4. When the ready-to-proceed message appears on the screen, press any key to proceed. The system emits three short beeps and shuts down immediately.

    ESD protection is an increasing concern. Due to the increased density of semiconductors used in recent Dell products, the sensitivity to static damage is now higher than in previous Dell products. For this reason, some previously approved methods of handling parts are no longer applicable.

    It is recommended that all field service technicians use the traditional wired ESD grounding wrist strap and protective anti-static mat at all times when servicing Dell products. In addition, it is critical that technicians keep sensitive parts separate from all insulator parts while performing service and that they use anti-static bags for transporting sensitive components.
