Removing and Replacing a CMX

12.3 Removing and Replacing a CMX
This section explains how to remove and replace the CMX. Install the CMX module in the passive
optical shelf of the ONS 15252 MCU when you are planning to setup the ONS 15200 system in the mesh
configuration. Make sure the replacement modules and any supplies, such as tagging materials, are
present on site before beginning the removal and replacement procedures.
The ONS 15252 Multichannel Unit (MCU) is energized with -48 VDC power.

a grounding wrist strap to discharge the static buildup. Wrist straps are designed to prevent static
electricity damage to equipment.

Procedure: Remove the Connection Module X from the Passive Optical Shelf

The CMX half replaces a TM in the ATO system (used to hold the duplex MU-MU connector).
Follow proper safety procedures when removing modules without switching off the relevant

subrack.
Do not look directly at the optical connector output beams during connector removal. The beams

can cause permanent eye damage.
Open the passive optical shelf covers of the ONS 15252 MCUs that are connected.
Step 1
Disconnect the duplex MU connector attached to the first CMX half.
Step 2
Put dust caps on the duplex MU connector.
Step 3
Put dust plugs in the adapters on the CMX.
Step 4
Raise the CMX half to expose the lateral grooves, and remove the fiber. Also, remove the fiber from the

lateral grooves of the DFM between the LM and the first HFM.
Push the button at the bottom of the CMX front panel to release it from the passive optical shelf. Move

the CMX upward and slide it out of the passive optical shelf.
Insert a Dummy Filter module (DFM) into the available space to fill the passive optical shelf.
